Frequently Asked Questions

WHAT CHOIRS ARE AVAILABLE FOR FRESHMEN?

We have a Beginner Treble Choir, an Advanced Treble Choir, and a Junior Varsity Tenor/Bass Choir.  However, at CPHS we do a lot of singing with ALL of the Choirs together.  No Audition is Required for Junior Varsity; just mark Choir on your choice sheet!

CAN I JOIN CHOIR DURING MY SOPHOMORE, JUNIOR, OR EVEN SENIOR YEAR?

Yes! However, your skills will be behind those of your peers who joined earlier in high school so that you may be placed in the Junior Varsity Choirs. If you are able to sight-read well and want to have personal placement, you may audition to see if you qualify for a higher-level ensemble.

CAN I EARN A LETTER JACKET IN CPHS CHOIR?

Yes. You earn points for Choir activities and can earn a letter jacket as early as your Freshman year.

WHAT KIND OF BEFORE AND AFTER SCHOOL REQUIREMENTS EXIST?

Only a few days are required each semester, so there are very few conflicts with other activities.

WHAT CONCERTS DOES CPHS CHOIR HAVE?

We have a Fall Concert, Winter Concert, Pre-UIL Concert, UIL Contest, and Encore, our end-of-year theme show.  We also sing at pep rallies, football games, and basketball games!

CAN I BE IN ATHLETICS OR ANOTHER ORGANIZATION WHILE IN CHOIR?

Yes! Choir requires very few hours outside of school, nor does it take up more than one period. Plus, Choir can help you get college scholarship money!

WHAT ELSE DO WE DO BESIDES CONCERTS?

We have about three socials a year, tailgate for a football game, go to San Antonio for holiday caroling, and go on a major trip (Six Flags, NYC, etc.) each spring!

WHAT ABOUT SHOW CHOIR?

This class is designed for choir students looking to earn a PE credit in a fun, music and dance-filled environment! Open to all students, grades 9-12.  Students will perform in all choir concerts.

CAN I DO SHOW CHOIR AND REGULAR CHOIR?

Yes!!! This class is designed for choir kids to take concurrently and earn their PE credit!

WHO DO I CONTACT FOR INFORMATION ABOUT JOINING CHOIR?

You can contact Mrs. Holt or Ms. Nathan, stop by the choir room to speak to a CPHS Choir Officer, or contact your counselor directly.
